West Rowan FFA to compete on national stage

MOUNT ULLA — The West Rowan High School Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapter was recently selected to compete for national recognition in a career development event at the 91st National FFA Convention and Expo in Indianapolis, Oct. 24-27.

The West Rowan FFA will send members to Indianapolis as they vie for national honors in the agricultural communications area. OsbornBarr and Valent USA Corporation sponsor the event. FFA members who will represent the chapter include Jessie Cline, Taylor Walton, Rebekah Russell and Chloe Patterson. Tori Cardea is the chapter advisor.

The chapter will also participate in the agricultural issues forum area. Elanco Animal Health and Syngenta sponsor the event. FFA members who will represent the chapter include: Sierra Lambert, Morgan Rogers, Alex Keadle, Jack Wilhelm, Mayerlin Alpizar and Carly Burleyson. Jason Chester is the chapter advisor.

Finally, FFA members will participate in the area of Marketing Plan. Bunge North America and The Context Network sponsor the event. FFA members who will represent the chapter include Parker Greene, Ryley Corriher and MacKenna Clifton. Jason Chester is the chapter advisor.

These are some of approximately 25 career and leadership development event areas, covering jobs skills in everything from communications to mechanics. FFA members present on a current issue facing agriculture to local community groups prior to competing in the national event. In the presentation both sides of the issue are addressed, allowing audience members to form their own opinions. CDEs and LDEs help students develop the abilities to think critically, communicate clearly and perform effectively in a competitive job market.

The National FFA Organization provides leadership, personal growth and career success training through agricultural education to 653,359 student members who belong to one of 8,568 local FFA chapters throughout the U.S., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
