Staff report

SALISBURY — Livingstone College President Jimmy R. Jenkins Sr. said Livingstone College will remain closed through Monday “due to the effects of now Tropical Storm Florence.”

“The weather forecast has Tropical Storm Florence moving at about 2 mph southwest of Salisbury,” Jenkins said Saturday afternoon. “The prediction is — should the storm not change direction — it will reach Salisbury around Sunday or Monday.

“The major concern will be rain (flooding), not wind.”

Livingstone has been closed since 5 p.m. Tuesday, when school officials gave students an optional evacuation notice.

Students, faculty and staff can stay informed and receive notifications through the college’s emergency alert notification system. Information will also be available on the school website (www.livingstone.edu) or on its social media pages and on the campus radio station WLJZ 107.1 FM.
