Rowan weather: Rain will start Friday; winds to increase

Here’s the latest forecast from the National Weather Service:

Rowan and many of the counties in the central part of the state, as well as the foothills, is under at flash flood watch from 8 a.m. Saturday to 8 a.m. Tuesday.

Tonight will bring a 20 percent chance of showers after 8 p.m. It will be mostly cloudy and 72, with north northeast wind at 13-16 mph and gusts up to 22 mph.

Friday will have a 40 percent chance of showers and Hurricane Florence moves over land. It will be mostly cloudy with a high of 81. It will be windy, with north northeast wind at 18-22 mph and gusts around 31 mph. A tenth to quarter inch of rain is possible.

Friday night will have a 50 percent chance of showers and north northeast winds at 17-21 mph and gusts of 29 mph. It will be cloudy and 71. Another tenth to quarter inch of rain is expected.

Saturday will have a 70 percent chance of showers, with northeast wind around 21 mph and gusts around 30 mph. It will be cloudy and 78. Three-quarters to an inch of rain can be expected.

Saturday night has an 80 percent chance of showers, with winds still northeast at 18-23 mph and gusts around 32 mph. The low will be 69. Rain will be heavy at times.

More heavy rain is expected for Sunday, with a 90 percent chance of showers. The high will be 76 and it will be windy again. Isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled out. Thunderstorms are possible Sunday night, with an 80 percent chance of rain. The low will be 70.

Monday also has an 80 percent chance of rain, with thunderstorms likely after 9 a.m. the high will be 82. Monday night’s chance of showers and storms will be 60 percent, with a low of 70.

And Tuesday will have a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. It will be partly sunny and 84. Tuesday night should be quieter, with a low of 67.

Wednesday will be mostly sunny and 85; the low will be 65.
