Lynna Clark will do a book signing on Sept. 13, 10:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m., at Attractions on Main, 2130 S. Main St.

Books will be available for purchase and a drawing will be held at the end of the day.

Clark’s books include “Just a Little Cancer Journey,” “Blue Meadow Farm,” “Autumn on Blue meadow Farm,” “A Blue Meadow Thanksgiving,” “A Coastal Christmas,” “Wedding Bells on Blue Meadow Farm” and “Too Far Gone.”

Clark is columnist, blogger and author. Some of her works have appeared in the Salisbury Post.

Retreat, retreat!

The Writers’ Workshop is hosting its 25th annual Writers’ Retreat at Edisto Island, S.C., on Oct.4-7.

It is open to a small group of experienced writers, and is an ideal place to relax, write and review participants’ work.

Daily sessions in fiction, creative non-fiction and memoirs will be led by The Writers’ Workshop instructors. Participants stay at a beach house near the ocean.

The all-inclusive rate (except meals) is $525 for a private room, or $450 shared. The commuter rate is $55 per day.

The Workshop is also planning a class on fiction writing on Sept. 29 with Ron Aiken.

The class will meet 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at 387 Beaucatcher Road in Asheville. Registration is in advance only, at www.twwoa.org. Classes are $75 each; $70 for workshop members.

Beginning or experienced writers will learn aspects of fiction writing, including story structure, plot-driven vs. character-driven fiction, characterization, setting and dialogue. Students may bring five pages (double-spaced) and a synopsis to the class for review.

Other tips include how to edit your own work and how to submit for publication.

Aiken is president of the Atlanta Writers Club, and studied fiction writing at Gotham Writers in New York. He conducts classes throughout the South, and is the author of several novels including “Death Has Its Benefits.”
