EAST SPENCER — The town will host a free Community Day on Saturday that will include cooking demonstrations, health screenings and other activities.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the former Rowan-Salisbury Schools administration building, located at 110 S. Long St. across from Town Hall.

Community Day is a way to introduce the town’s community garden and offer tips on healthy meals.

There will also be a bounce house for children and door prizes.

Musical performances are scheduled by Nacynze (In a Sense) and Liam & the Nerdy Blues.

Community Day is in partnership with Healthy Rowan and Happy Roots, as well as ReWorked and Off the Grid in Color.

Four community “chefs” will prepare meals or dishes using locally grown produce and other foods.

Toi Degree, an extension agent with the N.C. Cooperative Extension, will prepare a healthy dish using local vegetables as will Darlene Gaither, Shameka Smith and Melanie Cook, a nutrition health coordinator with Salisbury-Community Action Agency.
