Cedar Grove AME Zion Church will hold its annual picnic, homecoming and revival. The picnic is Saturday at 11 a.m.

127 years at Lyerly Evangelical
pic ROCKWELL — Lyerly Evangelical Church, 1320 Crescent Road, will celebrate its 127th anniversary Sunday at the 10:30 a.m. service.
Founded in 1891 by Dr. J.M.L. Lyerly and Rev. C.B. Heller, the church was originally Bethany Reformed Church. Dr. Lyerly later chartered Nazareth Orphans Home close to the church.
Dr. Allen Tyndall will be the guest preacher. Dr. Tyndall is executive director of PastorCare, a nonprofit organization to support clergy experiencing a difficult time in their lives and/or ministry.

181 years at St. Stephen’s Lutheran
GOLD HILL — St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church, 4401 St. Stephen’s Church Road, will celebrate 181 years of ministry at its annual homecoming on Sunday, as well as the 15th anniversary of St. Stephen’s Playschool. Former pastor Rev. Constance J. Garrett will be the guest preacher and lead a special Sunday school class at 9:45 a.m.
The worship service is at 11 a.m., with a covered dish meal afterward.

Homecoming and revival at Henderson Grove
Henderson Grove Missionary Baptist Church will celebrate homecoming on Sunday. The 11 a.m. service will be conducted by host pastor Rev. Perry J. Dye. Lunch follows at 1:30 p.m. and the speaker for the 3 p.m. service is Rev. Rodney B. Eldridge, pastor of New Smith Grove Baptist Church in Lexington, and a former pastor of Henderson Grove.
A five-night revival will be held Aug. 28-31 beginning at 7 p.m. The evangelist will be the Rev. Dr. Nilous M. Avery II, pastor of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Salisbury.

178 years at Historic St. Andrew’s
WOODLEAF — The annual homecoming service at Historic St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church will be held Sunday at 11:15 a.m. A covered dish lunch will follow at Unity Presbyterian Church (Woodleaf-Barber Road off Highway 801) in Woodleaf. The service will celebrate the 178th anniversary of the consecration of St. Andrew’s on the last Sunday in Aug., 1840. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Dr. Rhonda M. Lee, regional canon for the Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina in the Charlotte and Sandhills regions.
