The LandTrust for Central North Carolina has changed its name to Three Rivers Land Trust.

The organization has a new logo and branding but retains its commitment to local conservation, officials said. The announcement of the name change was made Aug. 18 at the annual RiverDance fundraiser in downtown Salisbury.

Celebrating the heritage of important Piedmont waterways, the new name is in reference to the Yadkin-Pee Dee, Uwharrie and Rocky rivers. Each of the 10 counties in the service region touches at least one of these rivers.

Three Rivers Land Trust has the same mission and functions as before: to conserve important natural areas, family farms, historic places and rural landscapes in central North Carolina and to reconnect people to local conservation. The organization will still be based in Salisbury.

“We are so excited about this next phase of growth for the Land Trust,” said Executive Director Travis Morehead. “We felt we needed to shorten the name and to make it more readily identifiable to the region where we do our conservation work. Three Rivers Land Trust gets at the heart of what we do — conserving land in important watersheds located throughout our region and making our rivers more publicly accessible.”
