Letter: Create destination on Rowan side of Wil-Cox Bridge

Why walk across the Wil-Cox Bridge to the Rowan County side?

Everybody knows Rowan County has always had more to offer than Davidson County. The barbecue is better. The batter-dipped French fries are worth the drive.

We have all the best shopping, the most delicious restaurants, the friendly folks, the historic districts, Cheerwine — really the list is endless.

So it is a disgrace to walk across the Wil-Cox bridge to an empty yard of bricks, a dead end. We must act. Our side, the better side of Rowan County,  must show an effort.

Whatever is planned as you reported in the Post, the citizens of Rowan County can do better — trails, sidewalks, bike trails, kayaks, canoes

If a 100-car parking lot is all that can be maintained at this point, with further plans to be developed, that would be applauded.

Ask Spencer to spend the money on the river bridge instead of the parking lot across from the Transportation Museum. Why waste money on Park Plaza? Nothing is going to revive that area. The folks in Spencer agree; let Spencer be a quiet, crime-free oasis.

The world will see the Rowan County side of the Yadkin River and the Wil-Cox Bridge from Interstate 85. If enough is planned on the Rowan County side, out-of-town folks will end up in Spencer or Salisbury or the Transportation Museum.

Do not let this asset or opportunity pass by.
