Joint community cookout
On Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. there will be a joint community cookout at the Tower of Power at 601 E. Cemetery St. sponsored by the Tower of Power and the local NAACP. Other activities planned are: NAACP membership-voter registration drive, gospel singing by Cliff Roseboro and the Heirs of Salvation, light lunch, vendors, door prizes, and short remarks by Mayor Al Heggins, Deputy Police Chief Shon Barnes, Joe Fowler, and others. Prayer seminar at North Kannapolis
KANNAPOLIS — Dr. Chris Schofield, director of the Office of Prayer for the Baptist State Convention of NC, will conduct a prayer seminar at North Kannapolis Baptist Church, 312 Locust St., on Aug. 18-19. First session will be Saturday at 6 p.m. in McMurray Hall.

Moore’s Chapel Day

Women’s Day at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist
On Sunday, Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 1920 Shirley Ave., will celebrate its annual Women’s Day during the 11 a.m. service with speaker Minister Sherry Smith, associate minister at Shady Grove Baptist Church of Mt. Ulla.
Minister Smith has served as Director of Blood Services for the American Red Cross and Director of Client Services at Rowan Helping Ministries.

76th anniversary at Messiah Lutheran Church
Messiah Lutheran Church in Salisbury will celebrate its 76th anniversary on Sunday during the 11 a.m. service with guest speaker Lucas Safrit, grandson of Rev. and Mrs. Don Safrit. Lucas will be entering the seminary at Wake Forest in the fall. A covered dish dinner immediately follows in the Parish House. There will be no Sunday School on that day. The current pastor of Messiah is Rev. Don Safrit.
