Letter: Remember tonight

Published 12:00 am Monday, August 6, 2018

Today at 6:30 p.m., in Rowan Public Library’s Stanback Auditorium, Actions in Faith & Justice will sponsor the multiple award-winning documentary film, “An Outrage: Lynching in the American South,” which premiered at the Smithsonian Institute. The film runs 34 minutes and will be followed by audience discussion.

The event commemorates the Aug. 6, 1906, lynching in Salisbury and investigates the legacy of lynching which continues to play out today in the form of mass incarceration in privatized prisons, school-to-prison pipelines and racial profiling.

Mayor Al Heggins will present a proclamation commending the reconciliation and healing that occurs when we recognize past and present day injustices with the intention of building a more just and equitable future.
