National Night Out is Tuesday

Kickoff is 6-9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4: The Salisbury Police Department hosts an early, centralized National Night Out kick off celebration in the SPD parking lot on E. Liberty St. The Community Block Party is the kickoff to the customary National Night Out festivities in Salisbury the following Tuesday.

The Community Block Party will feature food provided by the SPD, music and a friendly community tent decoration competition for the best neighborhood-branded tent.
More than 20 Salisbury communities will participate in the National Night Out event on Aug. 7, some offering free food, children’s games and other outdoor activities and special invited guests at various apartment complexes, Chestnut Hill, churches, the Fred Evans pool, Rowan Terrace and the Salvation Army.

Founded in 1984 by the National Association of Town Watch, National Night Out is an annual campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and builds neighborhood camaraderie. The nighttime event, typically held the first Tuesday in Aug. , also increases awareness of local law enforcement programs such as neighborhood watch and anti-crime initiatives.
Salisbury National Night Out participants attending evening activities are invited to post photographs on social media platforms using the hashtag #SalisburyNightOut

Belly dance class

Kannapolis Children’s Theatre presents “Chicken Little ” with a twist on the classic fable on Wednesday, Aug. 8 from 10-11 a.m. at Veteran’s Park. “The sky is falling! The sky is falling!” When something from the sky falls and causes uproar on the farm, watch as our friends Chicken Little, Goosey Loosey and Turkey Lurkey search for clues to decide weather the sky is really falling, or if it is just a trick!
