Sheriff: Man smokes crack before jail stint, charged with possession

SALISBURY — A Salisbury man who said he was “trying to smoke as much as he could” before going to jail has been charged with possession of crack cocaine.

Charle Lee Kluttz, 71, of the 1000 block of Maidstone Drive, was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance Schedule II after a Rowan County Sheriff’s Office deputy and probation officers searched his home.

Officials said they found two glass crack pipes and a crack rock on his kitchen table. He admitted that the substance was crack cocaine.

The single crack rock weighed 0.2 grams and was valued at $20.

Kluttz was already on probation for felony possession with intent to sell a controlled substance.

He also has been convicted of felony maintaining a dwelling place for controlled substances, felony breaking and entering into vehicles, a few driving infractions including driving while impaired, felony larceny, and misdemeanor breaking and entering.
