East Spencer man awaiting trial for murder faces more charges

An East Spencer man awaiting trial for murder could see additional charges despite being jailed for nearly a year.

Malik Eric Johnson, 22, was charged in August 2017 with the murder of Jeffrey Allen Ramsey Jr. He was also charged with attempted murder after allegedly stabbing a woman in Asheville.

Ramsey was shot once in the chest at the Three Stars Mini-Mart in Salisbury before he was transported to Novant Health Rowan Medical Center by private vehicle. He died shortly after arriving at the hospital.

Following a true bill of indictment, Johnson now faces additional charges of robbery with a dangerous weapon and assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill or inflict serious injury from a past case.

Existing charges included first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon, robbery with a dangerous weapon, possession of a weapon in prison, attempted murder and possession of a weapon by a felon.

Johnson is being held without bond on the murder charge, with a $360,000 bond on additional charges: $100,000 for robbery with a dangerous weapon, $10,000 for possession of weapon in prison and $250,000 for attempted murder.

  • Jeffrey Clyde Overcash was charged Saturday with second degree trespass in the 200 block of Cindy Road.
  • Anthony Joseph Little was charged Saturday with larceny from a motor vehicle in the 100 block of West Liberty Street.
  • Jimmy Lee Harris was charged Saturday with assault on a female in the 100 block of West Liberty Street.
  • Ariel Christina Stilwell was charged Saturday with possessing stolen goods in the 300 block of Trotters Lane.
  • Taylor Andrews Evans was charged Saturday with possessing stolen goods in the 300 block of Trotters Lane.
  • Kenneth Leroy Horton was charged with larceny in the 100 block of Lyerly Drive on Saturday.
  • Everette Leon Young was charged with simple assault in the 200 block of North Main Street on Saturday.
  • Heriberto Castro Hernandez was charged with carrying concealed weapons on Sunday.

  • Jacorey Damarie Ivey was charged Friday with assault with a deadly weapon or assault inflicting serious injury in the 300 block of North Main Street.
  • Sincere Jai’von Houston was charged Friday with receiving or transferring stolen vehicles in the 200 block of South West Street.
  • Two larcenies were reported Friday in the 300 block of South Arlington Street.
  • A larceny from a motor vehicle was reported Friday in the 1800 block of East Innes Street.
  • A larceny was reported in the 1600 block of West Innes Street on Friday.
  • A larceny from a motor vehicle was reported Saturday in the 300 block of South Arlington Street.
  • Darrell Sherwood Thompson was charged Saturday with breaking and entering a vehicle, railroad car or other motor vehicle in the 300 block of Arlington Street.
  • A strong arm robbery was reported in the 100 block of North Shaver Street on Saturday.
  • A larceny was reported in the 800 block of West Jake Alexander Boulevard on Saturday.
  • A larceny was reported Sunday in the 300 block of South Arlington Street.
