SALISBURY — David Michael Fisher of Salisbury was convicted of felony attempted first-degree rape and felony taking indecent liberties with a minor in Rowan County Criminal Superior Court this week.

On Sept. 9, 2016, the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office was told by Novant Health Rowan Medical Center that a 10-year-old child had reported a sexual assault.

Investigators found that Fisher had been baby-sitting the child for a few months. The child was interviewed at Terrie Hess House Children’s Advocacy Center about the incident.

Judge Anna Mills Wagoner sentenced Fisher to a minimum of 165 months to a maximum of 258 months in prison. Fisher was also ordered to register as a sex offender.

District Attorney Brandy Cook said she appreciates the work of Assistant District Attorney Kristina Scally and the partnership among her office, the Sheriff’s Office, Terrie Hess House and the Rowan County Department of Social Services on such cases.

Cook said her office held Fisher accountable for his conduct because of the thorough investigation that resulted from the partnership.
