Mocksville beat Kannapolis, 8-6, on Sunday at Rich Park in the regular-season finale for both teams.

Mocksville scored six runs in the second inning.

Kannapolis got a strong  long relief effort from Michael Harrell and was able to get back in the game.

Kannapolis had the bases loaded in the seventh when Mocksville got the final out.

Kannapolis finished second in the Southern Division of Area III and will open a best-of-three playoff series at home on Tuesday against the Northern Division team that finishes seventh. That’s  most likely going to be Kernersville (3-8), but Kernersville plays tonight  and can still tie Greensboro (4-8) and Davidson County (4-7) in the standings.

Mocksville finished fourth in the Southern Division and takes on the fifth-place finisher from the Northern Division in the first round.

Mocksville will be home on Tuesday.

The race in the Northern Division will come down to tonight’s games — High Point at Davidson County and Randolph County at Kernersville.

High Point and Randolph County are tied for first  place with 8-3 records.  Winston-Salem has finished the regular season with an 8-4 record.

Eastern Randolph outscored Randolph County, 11-8, on Sunday at McCrary Park.

Connor Patterson, Connor Shipley and Kaleb Lowe had three hits each for Post 81, which out-hit Randolph,  15-4.

Randolph County drew 15 walks, four by Tristan Marsh.

Jackson Leck and Jacob Edwards drove in three runs each for High Point to back strong pitching by Tyrese Hearst in High Point’s 11-4 win against Davidson County on Sunday.

Jed Bryant homered for Post 8, while Nick Tiller had three hits.

The McCanless Couples played  a Captains Choice on Sunday.

Ralph & Pam Craver, Walt Kincaid, and Monica Green took first place.

Second place went to  David & Azalee Huneycutt and Terrol Kendall.

Azalee Huneyctt won closest to the pin. Mary Seaford won longest putt.

Junior Legion

Kannapolis Post 115 won against Carson, 5-4.

Carson (18-4, 5-4) is in a three-way tie for second place with West Rowan and   Post 115.

Intimidators

ROME, Ga.— Marcos Almonte hit a run-scoring single in the fourth inning to give the Rome Braves a 6-5 win over the Kannapolis Intimidators on Sunday.

Justin Smith scored on the play after he led off the inning with a double.

Michael Hickman hit an RBI single in the first inning to give the Intimidators a 1-0 lead.

Kannapolis took a 5-2 lead after it scored four runs in the second inning on two-run doubles by Luis Curbelo and Craig Dedelow. Rome tied it 5-5 in the third on William Contreras’  three-run homer.

Walter Borkovich (4-1) got the win with 4 1/3 innings of scoreless, two-hit relief while Kannapolis starter Jhoan Quijada (0-2) took the loss in the South Atlantic League game. Kelvin Rodriguez pitched two scoreless innings for his eighth save of the season.
