A Mooresville man was charged with felony identity theft after it was reported that he obtained a credit card in his uncle’s name. The man charged over $300 on the card.

The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office charged Timothy Dillon West, 26, of the 100 block of Four Square Road, who was given a written promise to appear in court.

Jeffery Crews reported to Rowan authorities on April 20 that his nephew opened a credit card in his name with Captial One and used it at different locations. Crews told officers he did not obtain the card, but believes his nephew used a pre-approved card that came in the mail.

He said his nephew often went through his mail. Crews received a letter saying he was being denied a request for an increase in his line of credit because the first payment had not been made. The account was opened in March.
