SALISBURY — A gang member and another man remain remain behind bars after they were charged with stealing a vehicle at a swimming area, according to the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office.

Michael Anthony Curzi, 19, of the 400 block of Mildred Avenue, was charged Monday with felony breaking and entering, four counts of misdemeanor larceny, injury to personal property, and one count of felony larceny of a motor vehicle.

Officials said Curzi is a member of the Folk Nation street gang.

Johnny Dale Yoders II, 30, of the 100 block of Crawford Street, was charged with felony breaking and entering, two counts misdemeanor larceny, and misdemeanor injury to personal property.

Both remain in jail, each under a $15,000 secured bond.

Officials said the theft occurred June 3 at Riles Creek Access Area off Stokes Ferry Road. The two are accused of taking a 2006 Gold GMC Yukon and other items that were in the sport utility vehicle at the time it was stolen.

According to reports, a victim reported that money was taken from the vehicle.

Curzi was convicted in 2017 of misdemeanor simple assault, possession of stolen goods, misdemeanor injury to personal property and felony receiving or possessing a firearm. He is on probation after a March conviction for misdemeanor marijuana possession and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

Yoders was convicted in 2010 of felony breaking and entering, possession of a firearm by a felon, felony larceny of a motor vehicle, operating a vehicle without a license, possession of drug paraphernalia. He also has been convicted of felony larceny, resisting arrest, trespass and driving while license revoked.
