SALISBURY — When classes start for a new year in August, four Rowan-Salisbury schools will have different leadership than they did last year.

Enochville Elementary School was the first school to change hands. Former Principal Kelly Street accepted a district-level job in May, and newcomer Kelly Shoffner took over. Now, Hanford Dole Elementary, West Rowan Middle School and Henderson Independent High School join the list.

Hanford Dole’s Lauren Raper resigned effective June 13. A former assistant principal at North Rowan High School, Raper took the reins at Hanford Dole for the 2017-18 school year. It was her first job as principal. According to school system officials, Raper resigned for personal reasons.

Derek McCory of West Rowan Middle is resigning effective July 19. McCoy has led the school for three years, starting in July 2015. He resigned for personal reasons, according to school system officials.

Henderson Independent High School has experienced high principal turnover in recent years. Arlisa Armond took the helm in 2016, after the previous principal resigned. Armond came to Rowan-Salisbury Schools from Guilford County, and Henderson was her first principalship. Armond’s resignation is effective June 28. She will be heading Southwest Guilford Middle School in Guilford County Schools.

Two of the schools weren’t adrift for long. At its meeting Monday, the Rowan-Salisbury Board of Education unanimously approved new principals for Hanford Dole and West Rowan Middle School.

Stephanie Sanders will lead Hanford Dole. Currently, she is an assistant principal in Winston-Salem and Forsyth County Schools. Before that, Sanders was a curriculum specialist and sales representative for McGraw-Hill Education in Lexington.

She received a bachelor’s degree in child development and family studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a master’s of education in specialized educational services from UNC Greensboro, and a school administration license from Appalachian State University. She is pursuing a doctorate in education leadership at High Point University. She currently lives in Lexington.

A familiar face will be taking over at West Rowan Middle School. Stacey White, an 18-year Rowan-Salisbury teacher, landed the position Monday. White has been invested in the West Rowan community since 2007, when she started her career as a business and marketing teacher at West Rowan High School. In 2014, she became an assistant principal at West Rowan High. West Rowan Middle School will be her first principalship.

White has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Catawba College, a teaching certificate from East Carolina University and a master’s degree in school administration from Gardner-Webb University. She lives in Cleveland.

Rowan-Salisbury Schools is still searching for a principal for Henderson Independent High School.
