SALISBURY — A Winston-Salem man with a felony criminal record was in the Rowan County jail Monday after he was found with nearly 4 ounces of marijuana and a gun in his vehicle.

The Salisbury Police Department charged Javon Michael Jones, 24, of the 1600 block of Martin Street, Apartment E,  on Friday with felony possession of a weapon by a felon; felony carrying a concealed weapon; felony possession of a controlled substance Schedule VI; felony possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a controlled substance Schedule VI; felony maintaining a dwelling or vehicle for controlled substance; and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

A police officer noted a green Ford Explorer traveling at East Council and North Long streets. He checked the license plate, which was registered to a Chevrolet Tahoe. The officer stopped the vehicle.

The driver, identified as Jones, told the officer he just bought the car. During a search of the sport utility vehicle, the officer found a gun and 98 grams of marijuana in Jones’ pants pocket along with seven empty plastic sandwich bags.

He remains in the jail under a $30,000 secured bond.
