Area Sports Briefs: Sectional qualifying at Country Club today

The Country Club of Salisbury is one of the sectional qualifying sites for the U.S. Junior Amateur.
Action starts today at 8 a.m. with players teeing off on No. 1 and No. 10.
The format is 18 holes of stroke play.
The top three golfers will advance to the championship tournament, while the next two will get alternate spots.
The championship will be held at Baltusrol Golf Club (Upper and Lower Courses) in Springfield, N.J., July 16-21.
The U.S. Junior Amateur is open to any male competitor who has not reached his 19th birthday as of July 21 and whose Handicap Index® does not exceed 4.4.
Junior Legion
Carson topped East Rowan on Sunday, 4-2.
Cole Hales pitched five scoreless innings for Carson, and Tyler Thompson finished up.
Thompson and Mason Heard had RBIs for Carson. Ryan Street scored twice. Aaron Misenheimer and Logan Rogers had two hits each.
Wood bat leagues
Jackson Raper (Catawba) is playing for the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks this summer in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League.
Raper was 3-for-5 with a double and a triple in a win over Worcester.
Raper is batting .381 for the Sharks (9-1).
Legion softball
Rowan County is at home (at East Rowan High) against Davidson County on Tuesday and plays at Kannapolis (Kannapolis Middle School) on Thursday.
Rowan’s eight-team Central Division also includes Concord, Eastern Randolph, Western Randolph, Montgomery County and Stanly County.
All game days will be doubleheaders, with two five-inning contests.
Stanly County plays home games at Pfeiffer University.
Concord’s home field is Central Cabarrus High.
Davidson plays at Central Davidson Middle School.
Concord went undefeated last season and won the state title.
