No relocation necessary for Pops at the Post

SALISBURY — The final decision is in. Pops at the Post will be staged at its namesake location, the Salisbury Post.

The call came early Friday morning from Steve Monday, chief forecaster for Rowan County Weather.

“Overall, the event looks like it will stay dry. We can’t rule out the possibility of an isolated shower or thunderstorm,” Monday said.

Monday encouraged concertgoers take their chances, even so.

“I’ll be on site keeping the organizers updated with weather updates,” he said. “If any showers or storms head our way, we will let you know about them.”

Today’s festivities will begin at 1 p.m. with tailgating in reserved, ticketed spots.

A collection of vendors from Rowan Arts & Ag will be set up on West Fisher Street in front of Rowan Public Library.

Artists and vendors will showcase clothing, jewelry, drawings, photography, watercolors and works in clay, metal, wood, fiber, leather and more.

Family-friendly activities will include bounce houses, face painting, and strolling entertainment.

Food vendors will be set up along West Fisher Street by 4 p.m.

And then it’s on to the pre-show with a two-hour performance by the Salisbury Swing Band starting at 5 p.m.

The group will perform near the former location of First Bank, along West Innes Street.

The Salisbury Symphony performance will begin at sundown, approximately 7:45 p.m.

The concert is staged on the Salisbury Post loading dock facing South Church Street.

Guests are welcome to set up chairs and picnic blankets in the parking lot facing the dock after noon today.

A VIP seating area is set up along South Church Street for Salisbury Symphony season ticket holders, Pops sponsors and concertgoers with disabilities. The seats will be available at 3 p.m.

Seating for season ticket holders includes all current 2017-18 season members as well as those who wish to purchase 2018-19 memberships today. Those interested are invited to visit the symphony tent on the concert grounds between noon and 7 p.m.
