POPS: Pops at the Post’s frequently asked questions

Question: Where is the concert?
Answer:
Pops at the Post takes place on the 100 block of South Church Street. The symphony orchestra will be seated behind the Salisbury Post building on the loading dock, with the audience in the parking lots across the street.

Question: When does the event begin?
Answer: Pops at the Post is held annually the first Saturday in June. This year, it will be held on June 2.

Tailgating will begin at 1 p.m., tailgaters must be in their space no later than 7p.m. Vendors will be set up along Fisher Street by 4 p.m. This year Rowan Arts & Ag will be on site 3 to 7p.m. The Salisbury Swing Band will perform from 5 to 7 p.m. The symphony performance begins approximately 7:45 p.m.

Question: How long does the concert last?
Answer:
Pops at the Post is typically a two-hour concert, with a 15-minute intermission. There are two planned encores, but families with young children may feel free to leave at any time.

Please enjoy yourself during the concert, but please respect those guests who may be more focused on the music.

Question: How can I follow what’s going on?
Answer:
You can get a handheld fan with the program printed on the back at the Salisbury Symphony’s tent in the former First Bank parking lot.

Question: Are there restrooms available?
Answer: Yes. Port-a-johns, both regular and handicapped-accessible, are available. They are in two locations: the former First Bank drive through area and along Fisher Street at the Post employee parking lot.

Question: Where do I park?
Answer: Ample parking is available throughout the downtown area. But if you need some help, visit the Downtown Salisbury website

Question: Is there handicapped parking available?
Answer: Yes. There is limited handicapped parking in the Post courtyard. There is also a drop-off area at the First Bank lot. Drivers may enter the lot from Innes Street and exit to the right onto Jackson Street.

Question: Is there reserved seating available?
Answer: Yes. There are 300 reserved seats available each year. These are for Salisbury Symphony Orchestra season ticket holders, event sponsors and concert-goers with disabilities. The seats are available at 3 p.m.

Seating for season ticket holders includes all current 2017-18 season members as well as those who wish to purchase 2018-19 memberships at the concert. Those interested are invited to visit the symphony tent on the concert grounds any time between noon and 7 p.m. Questions can be answered by calling the symphony office at 704.216.1513.

Question: When can guests set up personal chairs?
Answer: Due to event setup and insurance reasons, guests must wait until noon on the day of the concert to set up personal chairs and picnic blankets.

Question: What if it rains?
Answer: There is a contingency plan in place to hold the concert at Keppel Auditorium on the Catawba College campus. Shuttle service will be available there, as well.

A decision for the concert location will be made by Friday.

Question: Is there food available?
Answer: Yes. Vendors will be set up along Fisher Street by 4 p.m.

Question: Can I tailgate?
Answer: Yes. Designated tailgate spots will open at 1 p.m. the day of the event. Spots can be reserved before the day of the event via Eventbrite, and were sold out by print of this publication.

Any spots left unreserved will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. The designated tailgating spots are located in the Post employee and First Bank parking lots. The lots will close by 7 p.m. for the safety of pedestrians.

Question: Is alcohol allowed?
Answer: No alcohol is allowed at the Pops at the Post event.

Question: What if someone has an emergency of some kind?
Answer: Personnel from the city of Salisbury Fire Department will be on standby, and an EMS tent will be set up in front of the library in the Post employee parking lot. Officers with the city of Salisbury Police Department will be walking through the crowd throughout the evening, offering their assistance.

Question: Where can I find information on the event’s sponsors?Answer: Sponsors will have tents set up in the First Bank parking lot.

Question: Is there free Cheerwine again this year?
Answer: Yes! Look for the Cheerwine trailer in the front corner of the First Bank parking lot.

Question: May I bring my dog on a leash?
Answer: Sorry. No pets are allowed

Question: May I bring something to cook on if I am tailgating?
Answer: Sorry. No open flames are allowed for safety reasons.

Question: Where can I donate during the concert?
Answer: Thank you for supporting our event! There will be a “pass the hat” during intermission, or you may donate at the Salisbury Symphony tent. Plus you can donate online, visit our website or find us on Facebook.
