SPENCER — On May 19, Spencer Library Park welcomed 75 guests, including vendors and musical groups, to Celebrate Life, an annual event whose goal is to raise money for Spencer Public Library and unite local community members.

Matthew Weaver, instrumental pianist of the year 2011-2016, led the musical festival.

Carol Harris performed a duet with Matt, and The Moonglows — Kent Bernhardt, Kay Peeler, John Brincefield, Carol Harris, Bill Bucher and Lauren Stevenson — sang Big band romantic favorites.

Patrick King, recent college graduate and soloist, reminds one of Josh Groban.

Maggie Fitzgerald danced an interpretation of “Amazing Grace” followed by the Whosoever Will Praise Band, led by youth minister Jamar Harris of Whosoever Will Let Them Come Ministry.

Vendor tables were hosted by non-profit agencies such as Communities in Schools, Thelma Smith non-profit Foundation Southern Branch, Rowan Crisis Council, Life Village, Jobs for Life, Meals on Wheels and many others.

Young people were given free school supplies, snacks, cold drinks and free face-painting. Games were set up for young children by Thelma Smith Foundation and Melissa Summers painted lots of little faces.

Crafters included wood-burning, painting, stained -glass art and quilting. Vendors donated to the Spencer Public Library so that the community could enjoy a free event.

Contact Beverly McCraw, town librarian, to volunteer or donate to Spencer Public Library.

Our next event for children will be a special Pirate Day in the town gazebo in Library Park. Games, free pirate eye-patches and snacks will be available from 1-3 on June 16.
