Area Sports Briefs: Kannapolis Legion wins

KANNAPOLIS — Tall  lefty Rohan Handa pitched his second gem of the season as Kannapolis beat Stanly County, 6-1, on  Saturday in American Legion action.

Kannapolis (2-4) got two hits each from Devin Faggart, Jason White and Cord Butler. Michael Harrell put Kannapolis in front with an early three-run blast.

Mocksville-Greensboro and Concord-Randolph were washouts.

Junior Legion

Carson won twice against West Rowan on Saturday, 14-4 and 6-0.

Dylan Driver won the opener. Coles Hales, Ryan Stret and Logan Rogers also pitched well for Carson. Hales had four hits and three RBIs.  Aaron Misenheimer and Caden Hudson had two hits apiece.

Tyler Thompson struck out seven in the nightcap, and Michael Bostian also pitched well. Blane Roberts and TJ Jones had two hits each for Carson.

Carson plays East Rowan at Staton Field tonight at 7.

Intimidators

The Kannapolis Intimidators were washed out at West Virginia and will play two games today.

 

Prep soccer

Cox Mill lost to Chapel Hill, 1-0, in the 3A state championship game on Saturday in Raleigh.

In the 2A game, First Flight beat Lake Norman Charter, 6-1.

Union Academy topped Franklin Academy in 1A, and Fuquay-Varina beat Myers Park in 4A.

 

Prep baseball

Crest won the 3A West championship series, shutting out A.C. Reynolds, 7-0, on  Saturday.
