Knox Center for Accelerated Studies

SALISBURY — On May 14, the Knox Center for Accelerated Studies held its first “Signing Night,” when it welcomed more than 50 new students.

The students come from across Rowan County and have been accepted into the school’s magnet program for the 2018-19 school year. Families came out to enjoy an evening of celebrations that included a signing table, photo booth, desserts and more.

Knox’s magnet program provides an opportunity to students from across the county, allowing them to attend through an application process regardless of town of residence. Students in the magnet program have the opportunity to earn as many as five high school credits while at Knox, as well as participate in a new gaming and coding class, use state-of-the-art technology in the school’s new STEM lab, and participate in a medical cadet program at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center.

Christian Rosado, a rising sixth-grader, said he is looking forward to taking high school classes while in middle school to open more opportunities when he gets to high school.

Madison Krider and Alina Herrick, rising seventh-graders, are excited about Knox’s partnership with Novant Health through the medical cadet program. Both Madison and Alina look forward to pursuing their goals of becoming doctors.

“I can finish high school early and go to college early,” Alina said.

Faculty and staff members at Knox Middle School are excited to welcome the newest batch of Trojans in August.
