Carolina Artists host Glacken
The Carolina Artists Guild meets at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 17 at Rufty-Holmes Senior Center, 1120 Martin Luther King Jr Ave S.
Special guest is Annie Glacken, watercolor artist from Concord, who will be sharing her watercolor journals and doing a demonstration of a journal page.
Glacken holds active memberships in the Watercolor Society of North Carolina, High Country Watermedia Society, Cabarrus Art Guild and the Mooresville Art Guild.

Concord’s Spring into Arts Festival
CONCORD — Spring into Art on Saturday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. in Downtown Concord.
The Spring into Arts Festival is an annual family-friendly event that showcases and promotes the visual and performing arts.

Annual Haulers on Union Parade & Fan Fest kicks off family racing fun
CONCORD — The Tim Clark Band heads the Haulers on Union Parade & Fan Fest presented by Freightliner in downtown Concord on Thursday, May 17.
• A free, fun and exciting evening is highlighted by the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup car haulers’ annual parade down Union Street on the way to Charlotte Motor Speedway for the All-Star Race on May 19. More than 30 of the brightly-colored NASCAR haulers are expected on Union Street at approximately 6:15 p.m. for an evening of fun.
• Activities for the entire family begin at 5 p.m. including show cars, race car simulators, games for the entire family, kids’ activities including a bounce house, mascots, celebrity autograph sessions, food vendors and a beer garden for adults.
• On Tuesday, May 22 at the Little 600 at the GoPro Motorplex in Mooresville, see some of NASCAR’s biggest drivers battling each other for bragging rights in GoPro Motorplex’s rental fleet of go-karts. This free event starts at 5 p.m. featuring a full field of NASCAR drivers in the 15-lap main event as well as a NASCAR spotters race.
• Circle K Speed Street presented by Coca-Cola will be rocking the streets of uptown Charlotte May 24-26 with live entertainment, access to racing’s brightest stars, giveaways and interactive displays. Each day starting at noon, gather on Tryon Street for vendor displays, kid’s activities, racing-related fun and more until 8 p.m. Then local, regional and national headliners will take the Coca-Cola stage in Romare Bearden Park starting at 6:30 p.m.
Tickets are $15 for Friday-Saturday night headliners. All other activities are free.

2018 Yadkin Riverkeeper Tour offers four days of family paddling fun
Winston-Salem — Registration is open for the 2018 Yadkin Riverkeeper tour of paddling experiences down North Carolina’s second longest river.
This year’s tour kicks off with a fundraiser at Sanders Ridge Winery in Booneville on Saturday, May 19 from noon-5 p.m.
Second leg of the tour: Paddle & Potluck on Sunday, June 24 from 3-9 p.m in East Bend. An afternoon of paddling; then an evening of music with Martha Bassett. Bring a potluck dish to share. Free beer and wine.
Carolina Heritage Vineyard & Winery tour: Saturday, July 21 from noon-5 p.m. Meet at Crater Park in Elkin and paddle to Mitchell River where you’ll head to Carolina Heritage for food, wine, beer, music and fun.Be shuttled back Crater Park where you can choose to experience a night of camping by the river.
The 107KZL-FM Paddle at Childress Vineyards on Saturday, August 25 from 11 a.m.-5 p.m wraps the tour and is the biggest paddling event of the summer with food, beverages, music, fun for the whole family.

Today: 38th Annual Bluegrass Festival kicks off at Denton FarmPark
Country Stars Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver to Headline Three-Day Event
Denton — Denton FarmPark, about 25 miles from Salisbury in Davidson County, will host its 38th Annual Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver Bluegrass Festival Thursday-Saturday, May 10-12.
Lawson and Quicksilver, which have received multiple nominations and awards from the Grammy, Dove, ICM, IBMA and SPBGMA organizations, will perform Friday and Saturday nights. Other bands featured during the festival include Joe Mullins & The Radio Ramblers, Russell Moore & IIIrd Tyme Out, Seldom Scene, and Larry Sparks.
Ticket prices range from $40 per day for adults to $90 for a three-day pass. Camping sites can be reserved, and food will be available for purchase. The festival is family-friendly; no alcoholic beverages are allowed.
