Hanford Dole Elementary

The following students were named Good Citizens for the month of April:

Shive Elementary

The following students have been recognized as May Good Citizens for the character trait, leadership. Each student received a certificate, a Star Student dog tag and had his/her picture on the Good Citizen board for the month.

Sacred Heart Catholic School

The following students were named Distinguished Disciples for the month of April:

Millbridge Ruritan Scholarships awarded

The Millbridge Ruritan Club recently awarded ten scholarships at their May monthly meeting. Eight scholarships, each valued at $750, were awarded this year to four high school seniors from South Rowan High School and four seniors from West Rowan High School. This year’s winners from West Rowan are: Parker Greene, Stacey Ketchie, Morgan Corriher and Darreon Gittens. The winners from South Rowan are: Brianna Haynes, Angelina Palacios, Riley Corriher and Taylor Mauldin.

The ninth scholarship, valued at $600, is awarded under the Ruritan National Foundation’s Build Your Dollar Grant Program. This year’s winner is Bryson Pope, currently attending Wingate. The program is an innovative program that allows the local club to receive matching funds from the national office to award a worthy individual a grant. More than four hundred awards are made annually across the country.

The tenth scholarship, valued at $1,000, was awarded in memory of Ann White. Ann was a vital member of the Millbridge Ruritan club for many years. She lost her battle with cancer four years ago and is remembered for her caring and compassionate gifts to the club and community. This year’s winner is Bryanna Clawson from South Rowan High School.

Gardner-Webb University

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.— Jacob Kennedy of Mount Ulla has been named to the 2017-2018 list of “Who’s Who Among Students at Gardner-Webb University.” Each year, graduating seniors are selected for the designation based on scholastic performance and extra-curricular involvement.

To be considered for recognition, students must have an outstanding grade point average, participate in school organizations or leadership activities, be involved in the community, and exhibit future leadership ability or potential. Students are nominated for Who’s Who consideration by a faculty or staff member.

The Citadel

Rian D. Burris, grandson of Ricky and Susan Burris of Kannapolis, and son of Kimmie and Dirk Burris of Lexington, S.C. , received the Gold Star for academic achievement from The Citadel for the spring semester. The Gold Star award is one step above the Dean’s List award. To receive the Gold Star, a student must receive a 3.75 GPA or higher with no grade below a B.

University of Mount Olive

Marion James Smith, Jr. of Kannapolis received the the President’s Citizenship Award. Smith, Jr. is a junior agricultural education major. The President’s Citizenship Award, first awarded in 1972, is a scholarship sponsored by President Philip Kerstetter and Mary Kerstetter. The award is presented to a returning student who has made the greatest contribution to the University during the academic year. The scholarship is payable on future educational expenses at the University of Mount Olive. The recipient is chosen by a ballot of the student body.

 Bob Jones University

The following local students were named to the President’s List for high academic achievement during the Spring 2018 semester: April Snyder, of Cleveland; Kevin Cook, of Rockwell; Elizabeth Weimer, of Salisbury and Nehemiah Worley, of Salisbury.

To qualify for the President’s List, students must earn a 3.75 or higher grade point average for the semester.
