SALISBURY — The primary election to choose party nominees for several local and federal offices will be held today, with voting open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Also on the ballot is the city of Salisbury referendum on whether to approve leasing the city’s Fibrant broadband service to Hotwire Communications. Only voters who live in the city can vote in that referendum.

Candidates on today’s ballot include:

• Democrats Scott Huffman, Frank McNeill and Marc Tiegel for the U.S. House of Representatives in District 8.

• Democrats Kathy Manning and Adam Coker for the U.S. House of Representatives in District 13.

• Republicans Carl Ford and Bill Sorenson for N.C. Senate in District 33.

• Democrats Senah Andrews, Earle Schecter and Gail Young and Republicans Michael Anderson and Larry G. Pittman for the N.C. House of Representatives in District 83.

• Republicans Greg Edds, Jim Greene, Michael Julian, Judy Klusman, Craig Pierce and Jim Sides for the Rowan County Board of Commissioners.

• Kristina Tutterow Cook, Brenda McCombs, Jessica Dixon Touart, Daniel Wallace and Janet E. Yvars for Kannapolis Board of Education
