The Piedmont Small Ruminant Association will start meeting again this month. The first meeting will be held May 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the Piedmont Research Station, 8530 Sherrills Ford Road. The cost to attend is $5 to help cover the meal.

This meeting is a great way to gain knowledge about sheep and goats and to network with other local producers. The meeting will cover summer annuals and weaning management of lambs and kids. To RSVP, please call 704-216-8970 by May 14.

May 7 — 6:30 p.m., 4-H Livestock Club Meeting. This meeting is open to youth ages 5-18 as of Jan. 1. This club is great for youth interested in learning more about sheep, goats, cows, hogs and chickens. The meeting will be held at the Agriculture Center, 2727 Old Concord Road. May 22 — 6-7:30 p.m., What’s your Beef? This workshop is about beef (cuts, selection, methods of preparation, recipes and samples). It will be taught by Morgan Watts, livestock agent, and Toi Degree, family and consumer sciences agent. Cost to attend is $10, and dinner will be provided. More ways for youth to get involved

4-H Livestock Judging Team — This team is open to 4-H members ages 8-18 as of Jan. 1. Youth will learn how to judge cattle, sheep, goats and hogs to compete at the state contest in July. Any interested youth should contact Watts at 704-216-8970.
