SALISBURY — A local man was charged with cocaine possession after police officers went to his home to serve a warrant for his arrest on weapons and marijuana possession charges.

Nasby Jordan Mills III, 32, of the 1100 block of Laurel Street, was charged with felony possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a controlled substance Schedule II, felony possession of a controlled substance Schedule II and felony possession of a controlled substance on penal institution premises.

Officers with the Salisbury Police Department went to Mills’ home to serve the arrest warrants and he was in his car at the time. Mills was arrested and taken to the Rowan County Magistrate’s Office. He was searched after being booked into the Rowan County Detention Center. Officers found crack cocaine in his pants pocket.

He previously was charged on outstanding warrants from April 16 with felony possession of a firearm by a felon and simple possession of marijuana. In that incident, police say they were conducting a traffic stop and an officer smelled marijuana. The officer searched Mills’ vehicle and found a blunt.

Mills has since been released from the Rowan County Detention Center under a $20,000 secured bond.
