SALISBURY — Rufty-Holmes Senior Center held a “Red White & Bundled” baby shower last Thursday, and guests provided the gifts appropriate for newborns.

Guest speaker for the baby shower program was Susan Tillis, wife of U.S. Sen. Thom Tillis, R-N.C., who spoke about her Susan M. Tillis Foundation.

Based in Cornelius, the foundation provides essential baby items for junior enlisted military families with newborns at Fort Bragg. Nan Buehrer, executive director of Rufty-Holmes, said seniors — men and women — enjoyed participating in the fun idea.

The Tillis Foundation’s Facebook page said Buehrer, Program Manager Amber Phillips, the rest of the senior center staff and center participants “all worked to make the afternoon a resounding success.”

“The decorations were beautiful and clever, the “baby games” fun and the food delicious,” the foundation said.

Also on hand were Rowan County Commissioners Craig Pierce and Mike Caskey, Salisbury military veterans Tom Harrell and Troy Horton, Welcome Home Veterans’ Roger Schiradelly, and Salisbury Daughters of the American Revolution Regent Sandra Czuba.
