DAVIDSON — An Apprenticeship Summit will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday in the Rittling Conference Center at Davidson County Community College.
The free program is open to area employers.
The summit will provide an overview of federal and local cost-saving resources to assist employers in creating or growing apprenticeship programs in their industries. It will focus on four primary industry groups: information technology, construction, health care and manufacturing.
“This year, we are looking to help employers connect with others in their industries to start conversations regarding industry-specific apprenticeship consortia,” said Carolyn Davis, program director for corporate training and workforce development.
Small working groups will form to begin discussions and identify needs. Several apprenticeship specialists from the N.C. Community College System who have helped companies develop successful apprenticeship programs will participate in the groups.
“Apprenticeship programs benefit any industry with career paths that require employees acquire additional skills on the job in addition to gaining academic knowledge,” said Davis. “We welcome employers from all industries to attend to learn more about the benefits of apprenticeship programs.”
