“Every Brilliant Thing” is a one-woman show starring award-winning comedienne Tania Kelly.

The play explores struggles with mental illness that a little girl witnesses in her mother and then grows up to experience herself. The little girl is six years old. Mom’s in the hospital. Dad says she’s “done something stupid.” The little girl starts to make a list of everything that’s brilliant about the world, everything that’s worth living for including: 1) ice cream; 2) water fights; 3) staying up past your bedtime and being allowed to watch TV; 4) the color yellow; and 5) things with stripes. The little girl leaves her list on her mom’s pillow in hopes of making her feel better. But, the list takes on a life of its own as the little girl grows up and faces her own struggles. The play is about more than depression; it’s a one-of-a-kind theatrical experiences about the lengths we will go to for those we love.

Tickets to the performance, recommended for ages 14 and older, are $20 at www.catawba.edu/theatre, at the door for $25, with student tickets for $15.
