SALISBURY — A woman was killed in a traffic collision Thursday evening at Jake Alexander Boulevard and Lincolnton Road, according to the Salisbury Police Department.

The two-vehicle crash was reported about 6:30 p.m. Thursday, according to a Police Department news release.

The woman passenger was pinned in her vehicle and had to be freed by crews from the Salisbury Fire Department. She was taken to N.C. Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, where she died of her injuries, the news release said.

The driver of that vehicle suffered serious injuries and was taken to Carolina Medical Center Northeast in Concord.

The driver and a passenger in the second vehicle were not injured.

Police said rainy weather was not a factor in the crash. The investigation is continuing.

The Salisbury Police Department, Salisbury Fire Department and Rowan County EMS responded to the collision.
