SALISBURY — The May issue of Salisbury the Magazine, a publication of the Salisbury Post, has reached subscribers and is being distributed throughout Rowan County this week.

Copies also are available at the circulation desk of the Salisbury Post, 131 W. Innes St.

The May cover features a watercolor self-portrait of artist Mark Brincefield, who has been an editorial cartoonist and illustrator for the Salisbury Post for 30 years. A story and Jon C. Lakey photographs on Brincefield combine for one of this edition’s features.

Also spotlighted are Salisbury dog trainers Nina Dix and Theresa Pitner. They stress the importance of developing a full life with your dogs and how 95 percent of dog training is about instructing the human.

In its Food department, the magazine catches up with the Brazilian mastery of Chef Jose Dos Santos and visits his restaurants on East Fisher and East Innes streets.

Writer Andie Foley and photographer Rebecca Benson introduce readers to Scott and Kathy Adams, who have transformed a bungalow-style home into a stronghold reflecting their love for both the Renaissance period and pirates at sea.

Spencer Gettys and Millie Small provide information on the underappreciated Salisbury History and Art Trail. Susan Shinn Turner and photographer Wayne Hinshaw tell the story behind the women’s collective that led to establishment of SoFul Yoga & Wellness studio.

The May issue also reveals Dewey Bryan’s passion for collecting and repairing clocks. This month’s Rowan Original interview sits down with Aaron Kepley, executive director of Rowan Museum Inc.

Local photographer R. Wayne Wrights supplies the Through the Lens photograph. In the Salisbury’s the Place column, Dr. John E. Wear shares the story of important town-and-gown partnerships between the community and Catawba College’s Center for the Environment.

Deirdre Parker Smith once again offers reading recommendations on her Bookish page. Find out what’s happening in the May calendar, and see many of your friends at local events on the Scene pages.

Salisbury the Magazine publishes nine times a year. The June/July issue (summer) should reach subscribers toward the end of May.
