Fun celebration for Hurley Park

For this article, I wanted to focus on this year’s past, present and future activities for Hurley Park to keep everyone up to date on what is happening.

April 8 was a wonderful day to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Hurley Park. The weather, music and fun were all on point.

Everyone I spoke with remarked about how nice the event was, and how the weather worked in our favor. If you missed this year’s celebration, you definitely missed out.

Hurley Park’s celebration had music from the Salisbury Swing Band, carriage rides from Triple Springs Horse Run, art from Carolina Artists, bubbles from Soap Bubble Circus, an Arbor Day celebration, and lots of information from the North Carolina Wildlife Conservation, Forestry Service, Red Buds, Extension Master Gardeners and the Rose Society.

We even had free seeds and cupcakes to celebrate Hurley Park’s “birthday.” It was definitely a great way to celebrate the 30th anniversary.

For the present, we have our last event with Waterworks at 10 a.m. Saturday. If you have not been able to attend the past two events, you should definitely bring the family for the last, “Families in the Garden.”

This is a great family-friendly event where there will be hands- on art activities and nature projects. The event will take place at Waterworks, 123 E. Liberty St., Salisbury, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Although this is the last event with Waterworks, there is still time to see the beautiful artwork inspired by Hurley Park. “The Language of Nature” will run until May 25, so be sure to stop in and check out all of the amazing art.

Some things for the future to keep in mind: We will have the butterfly release and our all-time favorite lecture series with the plant giveaway later this year. With Hurley Park’s 30th anniversary, we will have some surprises to continue throughout the year, so be sure to keep up with us on social media, our newsletter or our monthly articles.
