St. Paul’s Cruise ‘n’ Barbecue scheduled for April 28

SALISBURY — The eighth annual Cruise ‘n’ Barbecue, which benefits Helping Hands Ministry of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, will be held April 28 at the church.

St. Paul’s Lutheran is at 205 St. Paul’s Church Road.

The daylong fundraiser features Port-a-Pit Chicken, classic cars, street rods, motorcycles, a morning Poker Cruise, a car show and awards, raffle drawings and door prizes, along with homemade ice cream and cakes.

Cruise ‘n’ Barbecue will be held rain or shine.

Here is a rundown for the day:

• Poker Cruise, 9-11 a.m. At each of five stops, participants draw a card that determines their hands. Best and worst hands receive a cash prize. The Poker Cruise takes a scenic route through the Rowan County countryside. Registration at the church begins at 9 a.m.

• Cruise-in Car Show, raffles, door prizes, music and chicken, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Judging in the car show will be from 1 to 2 p.m., with trophies for first, second and third place. Participants vote for Cruiser’s Favorites Awards. Raffle drawings and Poker Run and Car Show award presentations start at 3 p.m. Door prizes will be given throughout the afternoon.

• Commemorative T-shirts. A limited number of  Cruise ‘n’ Barbecue T-shirts will be available at $10 each.

• Super Tickets. A $40 Super Ticket covers a Poker Cruise entry, a car show registration for one vehicle and two barbecue tickets. Otherwise, the Poker Cruise costs $15 a vehicle; the car show, $15 a vehicle; and barbecue chicken tickets, $10 each.

The St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Men organize the benefit. The Helping Hands Ministry Fund at the church is available throughout the year to help individuals and families in the congregation and community with acute financial and other needs.
