So I know it’s early, but have you thought about what you plan to enter in the 2018 Rowan County Fair?

It may be premature, but think about how long it takes to complete some projects and how long it takes to get that baked item just right. And if you’re entering items into the canning category, you have to wait for the produce to grow, be harvested and then canned.

Contrary to what people think, a lot goes into getting ready for the fair and now is a good time to begin working on that fair entry or entries for September.

The fair is quite a competitive arena, and the best of the best items are entered there each year. So the sooner you begin working on your entry, the more time you will have to complete and enter your best work. That work may be your work or that of your children. Your grandchildren might even have some projects that they learn at summer camp that could be entered into the fair. Or after years of working on something, you finish it and want to enter it.

The residents of Rowan County would love to see your hard work on display in September. Maybe you are a first timer and have finally decided to enter; the more time you have to prepare, the better. It will take a great deal of stress off your plate and will give you more time to work on your project leisurely. So, think about it.

And of course, a county fair wouldn’t be complete without the pies, quilts, paintings and giant pumpkins. Every year at the Rowan County Fair, the community’s gardeners, bakers and artisans of all ages come together to share their talents with fairgoers.

So we welcome you to enter into this competition to win a coveted blue ribbon or visit one of the Rowan County Fair’s competitive galleries and witness the spirit of competition that is alive and thriving here in Rowan County.

Just one more thing — I do encourage you as a competitor to please be sure to read all rules and regulations for each category you enter. If you have questions about which categories will accommodate your exhibits, please contact the Entry Department for guidance prior to entering.
