Faith Elementary

Hurley Elementary

Students at Hurley Elementary raised $6,290 for the Pennies for Pasta drive. The money goes to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The class that raised the most money will receive a pasta dinner at Olive Garden, courtesy of the society. 

Governor’s School

Laura Bullock, of Salisbury High School, has been accepted into Governor’s School West for theater.

Pfeiffer Senior wins award for photography

Allison Lindsey has received word that her creativity has been recognized. As a contributor to “The Phoenix,” Pfeiffer University’s literary publication, Lindsey won second place for photography and artwork for her photograph “Blue Ponchos from the North Carolina College Media Association. The photograph is included in Issue 58 of “The Phoenix.”

Salem State University

The First Year Experience office at Salem State University recently announced the induction of 259 first year students into the Alpha Lambda Delta honor society, a national honor society for First-Year Students. Christina Abouzeid, of Salisbury, was among those inducted. 

Inducting its sixth class into Salem State chapter, the honor society recognizes the high academic achievement of first-year students during their first semester. These students were inducted into this prestigious society for having a grade point average that surpassed a 3.5 and for being in the top 20 percent of their class. This year more than 20% of the first year class achieved above a 3.5 GPA which meant that only those students who achieved a 3.6 GPA were able to be inducted.

N.C. State University

Abrielle Cozart of Salisbury was recently inducted into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines. Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors are eligible for membership.

The Citadel

Logan Miller of Kannapolis received the Outstanding Junior in Exercise Science Award from the Department of Health, Exercise and Sport Science during the Citadel Academy of Science and Mathematics Awards Banquet on Thursday, March 22.

The banquet highlighted more than 50 outstanding students, alumni and faculty in science and mathematics at the Citadel. This year, the event also displayed student research for 48 projects conducted through the Citadel Undergraduate Research Experience.
