SALISBURY — A Salisbury man remains in the Rowan County jail under a $1 million bond on charges that he raped a 63-year-old woman at his home.

The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office charged Jody Edgar Hall, 48, of the 3400 block of St. Peter’s Church Road, with felony first-degree rape and felony kidnapping.

The incident occurred Sunday when Hall gave the victim a ride on his moped to pick up her car at another location. Authorities say the woman is the mother of a friend of Hall. A report said Hall threatened and physically assaulted the women after he stopped his moped beside the road.

Hall forced the woman to accompany him to a location on St. Peters Church Road, where she was sexually assaulted. He kept the woman at the location until about 6 a.m., then took her to her home. The woman contacted law enforcement when she returned home.

Rowan County detectives collected evidence and conducted interviews, then obtained arrest warrants for Hall. He is expected in court Thursday for a first appearance.

Hall is currently on probation for a 2017 conviction for burglary and assault with a deadly weapon. He has also been convicted of communicating threats, resisting arrest, driving while impaired, simple assault, assault on a female, discharging a firearm into an occupied property, carrying a concealed weapon, and shoplifting.

In 2016, Rowan authorities said Hall used a bow and arrow in an attempt to kill his ex-girlfriend and her friends. He shot an arrow through the window of the woman’s home and nearly struck one of her friends. Hall tried to force his way into the house and threatened to burn it down, a report says.
