GRANITE QUARRY — Something has clicked for Carson softball pitcher  Rylie Stewart.

She was good last season, but she’s been great as a senior. Stewart pitched another shutout on Friday as Carson romped at East Rowan, 11-0. Stewart threw a four-hitter with 10 strikeouts and no walks in a six-inning game.

Stewart has struck out 41 and walked two for the Cougars (5-1, 2-0 North Piedmont Conference).

Kaitlyn Honeycutt and Liza Simmerson homered for Carson. Haley Howerton drove in three runs and had a two-run double in the third inning as the Cougars grabbed the lead.

Simmerson and Kaitlyn Stout knocked in two each.

Katie Jewell had three hits. Jess Freeze went 2-for-2 and scored twice. Kary Hales also had two hits.

East’s hits were by Caroline Johnson, Lauren Shepherd, Maddie Trexler and Mackenzie Sprinkle.

Haley Strange took the loss.

SALISBURY — South Rowan crushed Salisbury in a Central Carolina Conference game, 18-0.

Morgan Brown pitched a three-inning no-hitter with five strikeouts and one walk.

Summer McKeon, Brooke Lowery, Whitley Arnott and Anna Blume had two hits each for the Raiders (8-3, 7-2). South pounded 13 hits in the abbreviated game.

MOUNT ULLA – Junior shortstop Mary Sobataka walloped two more homers — that’s four in two days —  as West Rowan slugged its way to a 9-4 NPC win against South Iredell on Friday.

Taylor Walton also went deep for the Falcons (6-3, 1-1).

Hannah Roberts, Allison Ennis and Morgan Corriher had two hits each, while Parker Greene knocked in two.

Roberts was the winning pitcher. Walton relieved in the fifth and shut out South Iredell the rest of the way.

Kelby Goodrum had two RBIs for the Vikings.

MOCKSVILLE — Davie County romped against West Forsyth, 11-0, in Friday’s Central Piedmont Conference contest.

Sydney Wyatt homered and drove in three for the War Eagles (4-5, 1-0 CPC). Emilee Dishman  had two hits.

Rachel Bostic held the Titans to three hits in the five-inning game.

CONCORD — Central Cabarrus crushed Northwest Cabarrus, 15-1, in South Piedmont Conference action on Friday.

Jordan Baker hit a three-run homer for the Vikings (6-2, 2-0). Maranda Benton and Riley Tucker drove in three runs each.

MOUNT ULLA — West Rowan’s baseball team got its first league win on Friday at home, rolling against South Iredell, 8-3.

West (4-5, 1-1) scored five runs in the first inning to take control, gettting a run-scoring double from Mykal Berger and a flurry of singles from Jake Perez, Payne Stolsworth, Cameron Graham and Dillon Simpson.

West hurler Daniel Durham (2-1) made that lead stand up. He allowed four hits and one run in six innings, while striking out five. Stolsworth pitched the  seventh. West had eight hits, with Berger and Stolsworth getting two each. Leadoff man Logan Sproul had a hit and scored two runs.

MIDWAY — Salisbury couldn’t get the bats going  and lost at Oak Grove, 3-1, on Friday.

The teams split the season series. Both teams figure to be in the fight for third place in the Central Carolina Conference. Ledfor and North Davidson appear to be two of the top teams in all of 2A.

Salisbury got its only run in the first inning on hits by Joe Steinman, Griffin Myers and Bo Rusher, but Oak Grove soph Seth Polen held the Hornets (9-2, 8-2 CCC) in check after that. He got relief help for the last two outs.

Steinman (2-2) was charged with all three runs and took the loss. Rusher relieved in the fourth and pitched very well.

SPENCER — In the Yadkin Valley Conference, North Stanly swept North Rowan, 3-0 and 7-3.

McGwire Smith  threw a complete game for Cavs in the 3-0 loss.

Brett Tucker went 3-for-3 in the second game. Tucker,  Logan Stoner and Chase Shoaf had RBIs. Jordan Goodine also pitched well but took the loss.

“On the bright side, we competed a little bit,” North Rowan coach Mike DeSantis said. “Our pitchers threw well enough to win, but we made key mistakes and left too many on base.”

South Rowan was hammered, 16-0, by West Davidson in a CCC game on Friday and dropped its seventh in a row.

South Rowan-East Rowan action scheduled for today has been postponed due to the weather forecast.

Davie County rallied late to beat R.J. Reynolds, 4-2, in eight innings for a Central Piedmont Conference win on Friday.

Davie got two runs in the seventh to tie and two more in the eighth to win.

CONCORD — Joe Muhonen pitched a complete game and struck out seven to lead Central Cabarrus to a 3-1 win against Northwest Cabarrus in South Piedmont Conference action on Friday.

Josh Keziah had two hits for the Trojans.

CONCORD — Zach Zedalis pitched a two-hitter as  Cox Mill breezed past A.L. Brown, 9-0, on Friday.

Tanner Covington had two hits and two RBIs for the Chargers (7-2, 2-0).

Ryan O’Kelly and Dylan Shubert had the only hits for the Wonders (1-7, 0-2).

CONCORD —Robinson rolled against Concord, 11-1, in SPC play on Friday.

Luke Nelson had three hits, and Noah Love drove in three runs. Brandon Dayvault was the winning pitcher for the Bulldogs (6-2, 2-0).

Salisbury won 14-10 against Oak Grove on Friday.

Carson’s men’s tennis team won against East Rowan, 5-4,

Lucas Sides, Hunter Smith and Dylan Owens won in singles for the Cougars.  Sides/ Smith  andAvery Paschal/Ethen Fesperman won in doubles.

Prep hoops

The Carolinas Classic all-star high school basketball game will be played today in Wilmington.

The game matches some of the state’s best public school seniors from North Carolina against their South Carolina counterparts.

West Rowan’s Caleb Mauldin and Cox Mill’s Leaky Black are in the contest.  The girls game tips off at 6 p.m. at Hoggard High, with the boys game following.

Guilford sophomore Juwan Houston ( West Rowan)  has broken the school record in the 110 hurdles with an effort of 15.50 seconds.

Houston ran 15.57 in the event on Friday for the Quakers and also ran on the 4×100 relay team.
