Letter: You can report people who litter; here’s how

Thank you, Caleb Sinclair, for bringing the “atrocious” problem of littering in Rowan County to the attention of the Rowan County commissioners. Litter is everywhere and you’re right in that once you see it you will never “unsee” it.

Why people think that it is okay to throw their trash out the windows of their car is beyond my comprehension. And yes, cigarette butts are litter too.

There is a website where you can report litter being thrown from a car: https://www.ncdot.gov/doh/operations/dp_chief_eng/roadside/Beautification/Litterbug/. You just need to give the license plate and the time/location of the littering, and the state will send the offender a letter and a litter bag for their car.

When I was a child growing up here, there were commercials that said “Keep North Carolina green and clean.” We need to practice that in Rowan County.
