Hood Theological Seminary

SALISBURY — Hood Theological Seminary will host Christina J. Davis of Christian Theological Seminary for the annual Bishop Alfred E. and Mrs. Mamie White Endowed Heritage Lecture Series on Friday and Saturday.

The first lecture, titled “The Psychology of Racialized Trauma: A Historical and Contemporary View,” will be at 7 p.m. Friday.

The second, “Towards a Collective Liberation Theology: Mapping a Pathway to Healing,” will be at 10:10 a.m. Saturday.

Both lectures will be in the Aymer Center on the seminary campus at 1810 Lutheran Synod Drive. Admission is free and open to the public.

Davis is the clinic director of the Counseling Center and assistant professor of pastoral care and counseling at Christian Theological Seminary. Her research and teaching interests focus on spiritually integrated counseling, substance abuse and addiction treatment, and relational psychoanalytic theory and self-state multiplicity among women of color.

Davis has taught or is scheduled to teach courses on crisis care, foundations of pastoral care, theological perspectives on pastoral and spiritual care, social and cultural dimensions of counseling, and psychodynamic family therapy.

As clinic director of the CTS Counseling Center, Davis provides oversight of the practicum training program, graduate residency program, and overall clinic operations.

Before joining CTS, Davis had a decade of experience in pastoral care and counseling. She is a licensed marriage and family therapist in the District of Columbia, Virginia and Georgia and is an active member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy, the Society of Pastoral Theology and the American Association for Pastoral Counseling.

An ordained minister in the Progressive National Baptist Church, Davis also holds a Th.D. in pastoral care and counseling from the Emory University Candler School of Theology, where she was awarded the W.E.B. DuBois Noomo Award for Academic Excellence.
