SALISBURY — Livingstone College will kick off Black History Month with a free program titled “The Foreshadowing of a People.”

The program will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday; 9:30 a.m. Feb. 1; and 4 p.m. Feb. 7 in Tubman Theatre on campus.

It is presented by Michael D. Connor, theater arts and speech instructor, who said the 15-minute presentation features seven African-American orators including Nat Turner, Frederick Douglass, Booker T. Washington, W.E.B. Dubois, Marcus Garvey, Malcolm X and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

“It’s about the African-American trailblazers who came before us,” he said.

A professional actor, director and playwright, Connor wrote the play “Me and Betty D,” based on his true working relationship with Bette Davis as her personal assistant.

He has directed and acted in numerous entertainment media, including summer stock, touring shows, television and motion pictures. He worked on Broadway and directed the martial arts film “The Deadly Cure” by Zee Lo in Los Angeles.
