3:15 Update Rowan weather: Snow could be headed our way

Snow?

We are under a Winter Weather Advisory from 10 tonight until noon Wednesday, with the chance of 1 to 2 inches of snow.

Forecasters have backed off on totals, with an inch or less possible. Less than an inch is expected tonight, with less than an inch overnight and into the morning hours.

Counties to our east, including Stanly, are under a Winter Storm Warning,  A warning for snow means severe winter weather conditions are expected. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. The latest road conditions for North Carolina can be found online at DriveNC.gov.

The warning for the eastern counties is in effect from 11 p.m. tonight to 4 p.m. Wednesday.

A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving.

Today will become cloudier as we head toward evening, but we will reach a high of 46, with south southwest wind at 5-7 mph.

The chance of precipitation tonight is 70 percent, with snow expected after 1 a.m. It will be cloudy and cold, with a low of 26. Winds will shift to the north at 5-7 mph after midnight.

The snow may begin as rain before changing over. It may stick to untreated roads and bridges, causing problems with the Wednesday morning commute.

Wednesday will have a 50 percent chance of snow before 11 a.m. and then clouds will begin to clear. We’ll have a high of 30, with north wind at 9-13 mph, gusting up to 18 mph, so it’s going to feel especially brutal. Less than half an inch of snow is expected Wednesday.

Wednesday night will be clear with a frigid low of 16 and north northwest wind at 5-10 mph.

Then Thursday will be sunny and 42, with west wind at 5-7 mph. The low will be 21.

Friday will be warmer, with a high of 51 under sunny skies. The low will be 26.

Saturday, we should reach a high of 57, with more sunny skies, and have a low of 34.
