Police believe homeless man froze to death

SALISBURY — Police officers believe a homeless man froze to death under a bridge on Statesville Boulevard.
A relative found the body of Robert Clarence J. Doyle, 74, early Sunday morning under a bridge at 699 Statesville Blvd. near the Brian Center.
The victim’s brother said he knew Doyle was staying there but had not spoken with him in a few days. He last spoke to him Jan. 11 by phone.
The brother told police that Doyle had a number of health problems and would not seek help.
Police Lt. Greg Beam said no foul play is suspected. He said it is believed that Doyle died as a result of exposure to the cold weather. The temperature on Sunday was in the teens.
