Winter time is the perfect time to step back and think about the needs of your horse.

Every horse is different, depending on weight, age and activity level, when it comes to their nutritional needs.

We all know that pastures perform at their worst during the winter, and we have to find a way to make up for the lack in grass by feeding hay and supplemental grain.

If you are curious about what type of nutritional needs your horse may have and the options available to you, please join RACE on Jan. 23 at 7 p.m. for an Equine Feed and Nutrition Workshop.

The meeting will be presented by Jason Callicutt from Cargill Feeds. It will be held at the Rowan County Agriculture Center, 2727 Old Concord Road. If you have any questions, please call Morgan Watts at 704-216-8970.

On another note, if you have horses and need help with pasture maintenance or renovation, please call me at the office, 704-216-8970. I can help you get the most out of your pastures in the winter and hot summers, whether that means looking at new grasses to incorporate into your current pasture setting or recommendations on fertilizer amounts and herbicide usage.
