Play anything
Many of you have gone to Myrtle Beach for the New Year’s Regional. May you have much fun and luck. Bring home many points.
So many times in play of the hand, declarer will instruct dummy to “play anything.” Most of the time that is just fine, but in some circumstances it is not. If after the instruction, “play anything” the defenders can specify which card among the “anything” he wants declarer to call from dummy.
This should raise an immediate” uh oh in declarer’s mind that he missed something. The opponent obviously thinks he holds a winning, hence defeating trick, and needs a specific card played from dummy. Be careful when pulling from dummy, just in making an early claim, you are sure of yourself. Being sloppy doesn’t usually pay off.
