SALISBURY — Fire investigators continue to look into the cause of a Wednesday afternoon fire at a home on Hope Lane that displaced five people.

The fire was at 280 Hope Lane, just south of Salisbury, about 5:45 p.m. Motorists driving on Interstate 85 called 911 to say they could see flames coming from the home. The calls came in about the same time that occupants of the home called, said Fire Division Chief Deborah Horne.

Horne said the fire occurred in a bedroom and everyone inside the home was able to get out. No injuries were reported.

It’s still not clear what caused the fire because investigators were not able to go inside the house Wednesday night.

The Rowan County Chapter of the American Red Cross is assisting the family.

The following agencies responded to the fire: Bostian Heights, South Salisbury, Locke, China Grove, Landis, and Faith fire departments; the Red Cross; Fire Division of Emergency Services; and the Rowan County Rescue Squad.
