CHINA GROVE — Rowan authorities have identified the homeowner, Carolyn Adams Morrow, 78, as the victim in a Tuesday night house fire at Concordia Church Road.

The Rowan County Fire Marshal’s Office confirmed the fire was cooking-related and that Morrow lived in the home by herself. She and her late husband, William Hager Morrow, were founding members of the Atwell Volunteer Fire Department, not far from her home at 285 Concordia Church Road.

Fire Division Chief Deborah Horne told the Post that Morrow’s three children checked on her during the day and that someone always stayed with her at night.

Firefighters discovered the house fire after they saw smoke in the area around 7 p.m. Tuesday. Firefighters were able to get Morrow out of the home, and they performed CPR. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Rowan County Sheriff’s Capt. John Sifford said the investigation is still ongoing.
